Types of Plagiarism?

There are 7 different types of plagiarism but here we are discussing only three related to our topic.

1.     Direct Plagiarism:

Direct plagiarism occurs when a person intentionally copy and paste a lot of information from a given source. In this case, authors write less and use someone else’s work as their own without quotation marks or proper citation.

2.     Indirect Plagiarism:

Indirect plagiarism is when the author writes the source material work in his own words but follows the same style as the original text. In this case, the writing lacks uniqueness which is basically the contribution of a new author, and the text is considered plagiarized.

3.     Paraphrase Plagiarism:

Paraphrase plagiarism is the inability to properly cite the source. Even if the author uniquely presents the idea, if he/she doesn’t give credit to the original contributor or author, it will be considered plagiarism.

These three types of plagiarism are prevalent in the digital marketing context.

Plagiarism can damage the reputation of the author or brand. If copied content is found on a brand’s website the credibility of the brand decreases and the audience may stop trusting the brand.

How to Protect Your Content From Plagiarism?

Now that you know how dangerous plagiarism can be for digital marketing it’s time to learn how to ensure zero plagiarism in your content. Here are some tips:

1.     Write on Your Own:

You can’t write everything from your mind. You must attain the knowledge first and then present it in an innovative manner that engages the audience. For this purpose always go through the following steps:

  •  Read different sources and grasp the complete idea of your topic before composing.
  • Once you understand the concept, present the idea in a unique manner that differs from the sources you have grasped the idea from.
  • Write using a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion.
  • The reason why plagiarism occurs is that the writers don’t grasp the complete idea before starting composing and thus they don’t know the possible ways in which they can present the same information, and this becomes the root cause of plagiarism.

2.     Cite the Sources:

The sources that you have grasped the idea from must be credited. You can use in-text citation and the reference list to include the authors whose writing have been used by you. Here are some things you need to mention in the citation:

  • Name of the author/s
  • Years of publication
  • Title of the paper
  • Name of the source
